I've loved baseball since I was a kid playing in the backyard with friends in the neighborhood.  I played little league baseball for a couple years, but baseball faded as an interest for me as school took precedence.  Then, during my senior year in high school, I was drawn into the discussion and debate my close friends were having about the Mets.  By the time I graduated college, I began to watch more games and gain a better appreciation for the nuances of the game as a whole.  Now, watching games is a regular part of life for me, and I feel particularly fortunate to have the team of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling to listen to, learn from, and laugh (and, of course, commiserate) with on a near-nightly basis during baseball season.

This "Writing for the Fences" blog is a place for me as a baseball fan -- and a Mets fan specifically -- to share my journey of discovery further into the wide world of baseball history, current events, debates, literature, and personal connections to the above.  I plan to post each day, somewhere across the several categories I've set up in the menu bar above.  I'll also be posting regularly on Twitter (@Writ4TheFences) with a wider range of coverage through brief comments and retweets of the other baseball-related channels that I follow.

As I work my way through each post and improvement to the blog, I hope you'll join me!
